Alistair’s career experience includes designing, developing and commercializing consumer and business oriented products and services internationally in areas such as new media, telecom equipment, services and solutions including fixed, mobile and fixed-mobile converged products, programmable analog semiconductors, decision support, information warehousing and OLAP, packaged software, expert systems, training simulations, ASP services, financial services ASP transaction processing, wealth management ASP services and retail distributor software.

As startup CEO or product manager, he has been responsible for the development and commercialization of 12+ new software products including packaged software, first of breed software products such as the first strategic expert system, new product success prediction software, “stage gate” new product development software, balanced scorecard and activity based modeling software, enterprise and portfolio modeling, and simulation software, a major object-oriented information warehouse and post-OLAP modeling tool, dynamic product placement software and exchanges.

In the software business, he has a track record of both developing first of breed tools and also improving software product development processes including projects where he improved productivity of software teams by a factor of 20X over three years. He has consulted to firms on user interface design.

In telecom, he has worked on consumer services and electronics, digital living room products for LinksysByCisco, next generation network solution development for HP, fixed mobile convergence with Cisco, competitive strategy for a variety of networking companies (AT&T, Unitel/AT&T, Bellcore, Cable and Wireless UK), sensor development and networking for resource companies and programmable analog sensor development for mobile phones

 

Career

1999-present: Founder, Eclicktick Corporation/Alacritous Inc.. Startup, incubation, turnaround consulting, IT outsourcing and contract CEO services. Major clients and contracts sold have included Deloitte, Cisco, GTronix, Government of South Korea, HP, Veritas (now Symantec), and eForex. Startups have included eForex (turnaround contract) and VideoAnalytica LLC. He has been involved in three incubators where he has advised numerous startups on growth and business development strategies.

 

2006-2007: Chairman and CEO, VideoAnalytica LLC. Co-founder of dynamic product placement startup. Co-filed three major provisional patents around the idea of dynamic targetable product placement, developed strategy, business plan, fund raising strategy, obtained early customer interest from major networks and venture capital interest.

 

2004-2006: Senior Advisor, Deloitte Consulting, business development, thought leadership, pricing consulting. Developed thought leadership material and developed strategies for major high tech firms in target audience. Turned around major sales relationship resulting in multi-million revenues and repositioning of Deloitte in client’s eyes.

 

1985-1999: Chairman, CEO and co-founder, Alacrity Inc.  Software development, strategic consulting and IT consulting. Developed 12+ products and commercialized them internationally. Consulting to financial services, government, manufacturing and telecom organizations. Produced book on best practices in IT strategy and project management. Also acted as lead sales person acquiring over 200 clients internationally.

 

1984-1985: Associate, Woods Gordon (Arthur Young, International later Ernst & Young Cap Gemini). Strategic consulting. Sold partner volume of business in first year.

 

Education, Publications, Teaching and Executive Training

Alistair has an MBA and undergraduate degree from Harvard. He is the author of three books on strategy and technology  and information technology. He is a part time contributing editor of Strategy and Leadership magazine where he has also published book reviews, interviews with leading strategy thinkers and articles on strategy. As a trained strategic facilitator, he has facilitated strategies at some of the largest firms in North America, trained strategic facilitators in the Canadian military, and is also certified as a Myers-Briggs test administrator. He is a member of the Association of Strategic Planning, and former member of the Project Management Institute.

 

He has developed and delivered large scale training programs (300+ per program) on strategy and leadership for telecom and media companies. He has, in the past, also designed and taught strategy and international strategy in MBA programs on a part time basis in both Canada and the US.

CEO Advisory Services. Development of market strategy, organizational strategy, board and fund raising strategy for well funded hardware startup.

 

Competitive product analysis and next generation features identification. Development of competitive analysis, usability and problem identification for family of digital living room products. Recommendations were incorporated into next generation product planning. Project included three networks, three network attached servers, seven music libraries, three music systems and multiple music software.

 

Web 2.0 marketing. Identification of marketing issues, recommendations and development of Web 2.0 marketing strategy including development of case, article, a dozen blogs to promote complex product line for digital living room.

 

Strategy, marketing, solution and marcom consulting. Consulted on go to market marketing strategy for fixed mobile converged solutions for a leading telecom equipment vendor for service providers and enterprises. Developed strategy, white papers, cost benefit analyses and sales strategy documentation.

 

Strategic planning, organizational and process consulting, business development consulting for a semiconductor startup. Assisted CEO is developing and refining market assessment and selection, business strategy and needed new processes. Also provided business development and product management t assistance in two technical markets. Helped restructure management team and value proposition.

 

Thought leadership development for a major international real estate consulting firm. Topics: green strategies for building, lease portfolio management and risk modeling, international strategy for location decisions, investing in China, reconfiguring and financing of real assets during period of credit crunch, leadership issues for CFOs and the switch from GAAP to IFRS and its implications.

 

Thought leadership and business development consulting. Assisted major multinational consulting firm in developing business development approaches to many large major high tech firms in Silicon Valley in software and hardware segments (e.g. Cisco, Intel, Symantec, CA, Oracle, Hyperion, BEA). Authored four thought leadership pieces with heads of pricing, marketing, innovation and high tech retail areas. Turned around unsatisfactory relationship with major hardware client leading to new opportunities and multi-million contract increase.

 

Communications equipment vendor. Advised solutions manager on strategy and business development in order to develop business plan for proposed change to business development strategy for a significant telecom sector.

 

Major communications equipment thought leadership: Thought leadership development and business development strategy in new media and fixed mobile convergence areas.

 

Pricing review for major Silicon Valley software company. Reviewed and advised company on proposed pricing strategy change for a family of integrated products.

 

Turnaround CEO for Eforex Inc. Restart of failed product development process, restructuring of organization, evaluation and implementation of new pricing model which led to successful fund raising and closing of first $1M p.a. relationship prior to product completion.

 

Advisory services to HP Advanced Network Solutions. Analysis of portfolio of ISV and VAR solutions during Compaq merger integration. Development of ROI models for shortening sales cycles and helping clients justify complex network solution purposes. Development of market messaging and strategy for creating demand.

 

Acting CEO iPARK Venture Campus. Assessment of clients of incubator and their launch strategies, development of turnaround strategy for venture campus run by Korean government.
